Day 1 is in the books at the 2019 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard at the Dartmouth Curling Club.
The ladies took to the ice first in the afternoon draw on Monday. Team Jones (Mayflower) took on Team Myketyn-Driscoll (Mayflower). It was a close games throughout but Jones scored two in the final end to secure a 7-6 victory. The defending champs, Team Arsenault (Dartmouth) stole one in the fourth and three more in the fifth to cruise to an 8-3 victory versus Team Breen (Halifax).
Team Brothers (Mayflower) and Team Hilliard (Dartmouth) played a tight game through eight ends but steals in the final two ends allowed Brothers to secure a 9-5 victory in their opener. Team MacDiarmid (Lakeshore) made quick work of Team McEvoy by scoring seven point over two ends for a 9-2 victory.
The men were on the ice for the evening draw. Team Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth) stole two in the third and two more in the fourth to defeat Team Fitzner-Leblanc (Halifax) in their opener, 8-2. Team Murphy (Halifax) began their title defence with a convincing 9-3 victory versus Team Ouellette (Mayflower).
Team Kendal Thompson (Halifax) was in a tight game through seven ends versus Team MacKenzie. Thompson and Co. scored three in the eighth to secure a 9-6 victory. Team Stevens got out to an early 4-0 lead versus Team MacDougall (Mayflower) and never looked back as they went on to an 8-3 win.
The ladies are back on the ice at 9:00 AM & 7:00 PM while the men are on at 2:00 PM. Be sure to head down to the Dartmouth Curling Club for some great action.
