Things are beginning to take shape following Tuesday’s action at the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard. Here’s how it all unfolded.
Tuesday began with Draw 2 of the Deloitte Tankard. Chad Stevens (Truro) scored three in the third to propel to a 9-3 win over Alan O’Leary (Dartmouth). Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth) took the lead in the third and never gave it up to pick up a 9-5 win over Andrew Gibson (Lakeshore).
Kendal Thompson (Halifax) had a very strong second half of the match and went on to defeat Brent MacDougall (Mayflower), 7-4. In a battle of two teams from the Halifax Curling Club, Jamie Murphy stole three points over the final two ends to secure a 7-3 victory over Matthew Manuel.
Stolen points played a big role in all of the games during Draw 2 of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts on Tuesday afternoon. All of Mary Myketyn-Driscoll’s (1-1, Mayflower) points, except for one, were stolen in a 7-3 victory over Mary-Anne Arsenault (1-1, Mayflower). Tanya Hilliard (2-0, Dartmouth), stole two in fourth and two more in the eighth to cruise by Julie McEvoy (0-2, Lakeshore), 8-2.
Colleen Jones (2-0, Mayflower) used steals to come from behind and defeat Mary Mattatall (0-2, NSCA), 8-7. Theresa Breen (1-1, Halifax) finished the game strong scoring two in the eighth and stealing three in the ninth to defeat Jill Brothers (1-1, Mayflower) by a score of 11-6.
Draw 3 of the Deloitte Tankard wrapped up action on Tuesday in Dartmouth. Matthew Manuel (1-2) picks up two in the final end to seal a 10-6 win over Kendal Thompson (1-2). Chad Stevens (3-0) found themselves in a tight match versus Brent MacDougall (0-3). Stevens scored three in the third to pull ahead and secure a 9-7 victory.
Jamie Murphy (3-0) stole five in the fifth to pick up a quick victory over Andrew Gibson (1-2). The final score was 9-1. Alan O’Leary (0-3) stole one in the tenth to force an extra end but Stuart Thompson (3-0) scored the final point to pick up a 9-8 win.
