Things are starting to take shape following Tuesday draws at the 2019 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard. Let’s review how the day unfolded.
The women had the morning draw on Tuesday. Team Hilliard (Dartmouth) picked up their second win of the event by defeating Team Breen (Halifax) in an extra end by a score of 9-8. A steal of one in the seventh and one more in the eighth made the difference as Team Jones (Mayflower) defeated Team McEvoy (Halifax), 8-6.
Team MacDiarmid (Lakeshore) got out to an early lead versus Team Myketyn-Driscoll (Mayflower) and never looked back as they cruised to a 10-3 victory. Finally, Team Arsenault (Dartmouth) scored three in the fifth en route to a 7-4 victory against Team Brothers (Mayflower).
The men were on the ice in the afternoon for Draw 2 of the Deloitte Tankard. Team Kendal Thompson (2-0, Halifax) stole five points over four ends to defeat Team Ouellette (0-2, Mayflower) by a score of 10-4. Team Stuart Thompson (2-0, Dartmouth) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and never gave it up as they beat Team MacDougall (0-2, Mayflower) by a score of 7-5.
Team Stevens (2-0, NSCA) picked up back-to-back victories following a 9-6 win versus Team Fitzner-LeBlanc (0-2, Halifax). Defending champions, Team Murphy (2-0, Halifax) scored three in the third and fifth ends to beat Team MacKenzie (0-2, NSCA) by a score of 7-3.
The ladies wrapped up Day 2 with the evening draw. Team Brothers (2-1) rebounded from their morning loss and handed Team MacDiarmid (2-1) their first loss of the event. Make the final, 8-7. Team Hilliard picked up back-to-back victories following an 11-5 win versus Team Myketyn-Driscoll (0-3).
Team McEvoy (1-2) used a steal of 3 in the seventh end to earn their first win of the Scotties defeating Team Arsenault (2-1) by a score of 8-4. Team Jones (2-1) pushed Team Breen (1-2) to an extra end by up short losing by a score of 9-7.
Action continues on Wednesday at the Dartmouth Curling Club with the men on the ice at 9:00 AM & 7:00 PM and the ladies on at 2:00 PM.
