Colleen Jones and Jamie Murphy continue to lead the way but nothing is decided as we enter the final day of the round robin at the 2020 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard at the Dartmouth Curling Club.
Thursday began with Draw 5 of the Deloitte Tankard. Matthew Manuel (Halifax) found themselves in an early defict but they stormed back to defeated Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth), 9-8. Jamie Murphy (Halifax) remained undefeated following a 9-7 win over Brent MacDougall (Mayflower).
Chad Stevens (Truro) opened the game with a steal of four to roll to an 8-1 win over Andrew Gibson (Lakeshore). Kendal Thompson (Halifax) had a strong finish to their morning match in defeating Alan O’Leary (Dartmouth) by a score of 7-3.
Thursday afternoon feature the women in their lone draw of the day at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Tanya Hilliard (4-1, Dartmouth) struggled early but they came back to defeat Theresa Breen (1-4, Halifax) 9-8 in an extra end. It was a close game through five ends, but Jill Brothers (3-2, Mayflower) blew the game wide open in the seventh for a 9-1 victory over Mary Mattatall (1-4, NSCA).
Mary-Anne Arsenault (4-1, Mayflower) also staged a comeback on Thursday as they came from behind to defeat Julie McEvoy (0-5, Lakeshore), 8-7. Colleen Jones (5-0, Mayflower) made quick work of Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (2-3, Mayflower), winning by a score of 10-3.
The penultimate draw of the Deloitte Tankard took centre stage of Thursday night. Kendal Thompson (4-2) scored the only deuce of the match in the sixth and that was the difference as the team handed Jamie Murphy (5-1) their first loss of the week. The final score was 6-5. Matthew Manuel (4-2) picked up their fourth win in a row defeating Andrew Gibson (1-5), 8-3.
Brent MacDougall (2-4) got a solid 7-2 win over Alan O’Leary (0-6). Stuart Thompson (4-2) made the home club fans picking up a 7-3 win over Chad Stevens (4-2) following back to back loses.
Friday’s games are sure to be exciting with five teams still in contention for a playoff spot on in both the Scotties and Deloitte Tankard.
