Executive Director, Nova Scotia Curling Association 

Description 

NS Curling is seeking an Executive Director to lead our non-profit sport organization. You will oversee all operational and financial aspects of NS Curling. Expected start date is July 1, 2026 or earlier. 

Organization 

The Nova Scotia Curling Association (NS Curling) is a non-profit sport organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. NS Curling is the sport governing body for amateur curling in Nova Scotia with thirty plus member curling facilities servicing approximately seven thousand curlers. NS Curling is a member of Sport Nova Scotia and Curling Canada (National Sport Organization). We operate more than twenty-five provincial curling championships. We provide recreational and competitive programming and provide services to individual curlers, teams and member facilities. Job Overview 

The Executive Director is responsible for the successful leadership and management of the organization in line with the strategic plan and policies set by the Board of Directors. The position is responsible for administration, promotion, and programming of all activities delivered by NS Curling. They are responsible for creating, and maintaining a respectful, collaborative and collegial working relationship with, and between the Board of Directors and staff.

REPORTING STRUCTURE 

The Executive Director reports directly to the NS Curling Board of Directors through the President of the Board. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following: 

Develop, update, execute, monitor, and report on Business/Operational Plans that provide direction for a given year by integrating key aspects of the Strategic Plan with the Operational Plan and the Budget; 

Responsible for managing the organization’s budget; 

Oversee and delegate, where appropriate day-to-day, operational activities; 

Recruit, train, manage, evaluate, motivate and develop NS Curling staff and/or volunteers; 

Active liaison with Sport Nova Scotia (SNS), Canadian Sport Institute Atlantic (CSIA), Community, Culture, Tourism and Heritage (CCTH), and Curling Canada; 

Implement Board policies and directives; 

Assist the board with strategic planning; 

Deliver and monitor all programs and services to ensure consistency and quality; 

Establish, maintain and promote relations with internal and external stakeholders, provincial/territorial associations and government agencies where appropriate; 

Develop and enhance positive community, sponsor and member relationships; 

Assist in maximizing sponsorship opportunities; 

Ensure compliance with any sponsorship or funding requirements; 

Oversee the creation and maintenance of the Association brand, marketing and promotion planning.  Ensure a strong social media presence; 

Represent NS Curling within external communities, media and member relations; 

Execute special projects as required; 

Manage organization’s risk management program and legal requirements; 

Support an environment of continuous improvement; 

Ensure compliance and oversight with Safe Sport and True Sport practices and procedures; 

Establish effective communication channels with the Board of Directors. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Clear criminal record check 
  • History of highly ethical behaviour 
  • Self-driven, highly motivated and strategic thinker 
  • Proven organizational and time management skills 
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to work closely with and inspire others 
  • Must be able to travel within Nova Scotia and nationally as required 
  • Previous financial and project management experience working with budgets of more than $400K 
  • Marketing and promotion experience with emphasis on social media engagement 

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (WHAT YOU BRING TO THE JOB) 

  • Post Secondary degree or diploma, preferably in Business or Sport/ Recreation Administration or equivalent work experience 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of management experience in non-profit sector or working in a senior management and/or Executive Director role 
  • Knowledge of Curling, Nova Scotia Sport System is an asset 
  • Prior successful experience working with a board of directors 
  • Boundless energy and enthusiasm and passion for making ‘it’ better
