Competition Rules

All of the events run by the Nova Scotia Curling Association are governed by Curling Canada’s Rules of Curling, applicable NSCA Board Policies and the NSCA Rules for Championship Play. All questions regarding rules should be directed to the CAP (Competitions Advisory Panel) at [email protected]. The 2025-26 Rules are now published below.

About the Competitions Advisory Panel (CAP)

Purpose
The Competitions Advisory Panel (CAP) helps plan, run, and review all NSCA championship events so they are consistent, transparent, and athlete-centred. The CAP prepares the annual championship calendar, selects host sites, publishes rules and draw documents, collects feedback, and action that feedback and make changes as needed to keep improving our events. Read the CAP Charter document.

Core responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain the provincial championship calendar, including contingency plans for weather or facility issues.

  • Select and evaluate host clubs using clear criteria (facility standards, budget, volunteers, and community engagement).

  • Publish and update competition documents (Competitor Guide, directives, junior rankings, coach interaction guidelines, and event appendices).

  • Publish draw documents in a timely manner and reply to competition questions within 48 hours.

  • Enable registrations for events and live scoring, and support hosts during events.

  • Run post-event surveys and debriefs, then publish an Actionable Feedback Report with improvements and timelines.

Event-Specific Representatives
Each season, CAP invites a gender-balanced mix of junior and adult athletes/coaches from across NS to participate in post-event reviews. Selection aims for competitive experience, regional diversity, and a commitment to complete surveys and one debrief per season. Current season representatives are listed in the CAP Charter.

  • Championship Appendices: Men/Women; Seniors; Mixed Doubles; Mixed 4-Player; Curling Club; Masters; Club Series; Wheelchair; U20; U18; Junior Mixed Doubles; Junior Mixed 4-Player; U15; U12; U9.

How feedback works

  • CAP publishes a short Actionable Feedback Report within three weeks, including changes and who is responsible.
