Interested participants are encouraged to provide input on the following proposed changes HERE by June 1, 2026.
NS Curling is proposing to streamline the qualification process for the Ocean’s NS Women’s and Men’s Provincial Championships by eliminating the Women’s and Men’s Open Qualifier, and updating qualifying criteria for direct entry to the Provincial Championships.
The Ocean’s NS Women’s and Men’s Provincial Championships represent the highest level of curling in our province where teams compete to represent Nova Scotia at the Scotties and Brier. Teams work hard in preparing to perform at their best to earn this opportunity by practicing and competing in cash spiels. Our qualifying process changes are designed to reflect and recognize the results of teams efforts to earn these qualifying spots.
- The Women’s and Men’s Open Qualifier will be eliminated
- Teams will apply to enter the 2027 Ocean Contractor’s Women’s and Men’s Provincial Championship (8 team format used in 2026 will continue)
- Where more than 8 teams have entered, the following qualifying criteria will be implemented:
- Up to two (2) provincial championship pre-qualifying criteria berths will be awarded to eligible teams:
i. The two (2) finalist teams from the 2026 Provincial Championship (champion and runner-up). The team must retain 3 of 4 original players, alternate players do not qualify as an original team member, AND
ii. Teams must have accumulated a minimum of 12.000 CTRS points by December 8, 2026 to be eligible to receive a provincial championship pre-qualifying berth.
B. If a provincial championship pre-qualifying berth is not awarded, that berth will be allocated to qualifying based on current CTRS points
C. A minimum of six (6) teams will qualify based on current season CTRS points as of December 8, 2026.
D. In the event of a tie for the 8th qualifying berth, a tie breaker format is still being established, however, criteria that rewards teams for actively participating in qualifying CTRS events will be a priority.
