The 2020 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard got underway Monday at the Dartmouth Curling Club.
The men hit the ice in the afternoon draw. Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth) opened defence of their 2019 title by doubling up Brent MacDougall (Mayflower), 8-4. The 2018 champions, Jamie Murphy (Halifax), scored three in the first and three more in the fourth to defeat Alan O’Leary (Dartmouth) by a score of 9-4.
Chad Stevens (Truro) stole one in the ninth and one more in the tenth for a narrow 7-6 victory over Matthew Manuel (Halifax). Andrew Gibson (Lakeshore) never took the lead until the final end. They defeated Kendal Thompson (Halifax) by a score of 7-6.
Draw 1 of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts took place Monday evening. Tanya Hilliard (Dartmouth) found themselves in a tight match versus Mary Mattatall (NSCA). Hilliard scored one in the eighth and stole one in the ninth to secure a 6-3 win. Defending Scotties champions, Jill Brothers (Mayflower), stole two in the eighth and ninth ends to defeat Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (Mayflower) by a score of 8-3.
Mary-Anne Arsenault (Mayflower) jumped out to an early lead but Breen (Halifax) clawed her way back into the match. It came down to last rock and Arsenault stole 10-7 victory. Colleen Jones (Mayflower) got out to an early lead and never looked back as she defeated Theresa Breen (Halifax), 9-3.
