Jones and Murphy lead the way at the halfway point of the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Deloitte Tankard at the Dartmouth Curling Club. Let’s recap how they got to the top of the standings.
Wednesday begun with Draw 3 of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Colleen Jones (Mayflower) scored three in the final end for a 6-5 come from behind victory of Theresa Breen (Halifax). Mary-Anne Arsenault scored four in the first end and never looked back as she defeated Mary Mattatall 13-0 in six ends.
It was a similar story on Sheet D as Jill Brothers (Mayflower) got out to a 5-0 lead after three ends and used that secure a 10-5 win over Julie McEvoy (Lakeshore). Tanya Hilliard scored six in the seventh to wrap up an 11-4 win over Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (Mayflower).
The men took to centre stage for the afternoon draw. Brent MacDougall (1-3, Mayflower) stole two in in the sixth and three more in the in the ninth to pick up their first victory of the week. Make the final 11-4 over Andrew Gibson (1-3, Lakeshore). Matthew Manuel (2-2, Halifax) picked up back to back wins following a 7-5 win over Alan O’Leary (0-4, Dartmouth).
In a battle of the Thompson brothers, Kendal (2-2, Halifax) defeated Stuart (3-1, Dartmouth) 8-7 in an extra end. Jamie Murphy (4-0, Halifax) came out on top in a battle of undefeated teams. The final score was 8-4 over Chad Stevens (3-1, Truro).
Wednesday ended with Draw 4 of the Scotties. Mary Mattatall (1-3) picked up their first win of the week with a 9-4 victory of Julie McEvoy (0-4). Mary Myketyn-Driscoll (2-2) stole four in the seventh to defeat Theresa Breen (1-3), 8-5.
Colleen Jones (4-0) moves to the to the top of the standings with a 9-0 shutout over Tanya Hilliard (3-1). Mary-Anne Arsenault (3-1) defeated Jill Brothers (2-2) in a close match. The final score was 7-4.
