Murphy & Stevens lead the way at the 2019 Deloitte Tankard while Arsenault, Brothers and MacDiamid are tied for the lead at the 2019 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts after Wednesday’s action. Let’s recap how they got to the top of their respective tables.
The men began the day with Draw 2 of the Deloitte Tankard. Team Stevens (NSCA) stole one in the ninth and two in the tenth to secure an 8-4 victory versus Team MacKenzie (NSCA). Team Fitzner-Leblanc (Halifax) was in a close match versus Team Kendal Thompson (Halifax). Fitzner-Leblanc held on for a 8-7 victory.
Team Murphy (Halifax) kept their winning streak going as they defeated Team MacDougall (Mayflower) by a score of 8-4. Team Stuart Thompson (Dartmouth) scored three in the eighth versus Team Ouellette to pick up their third win in a row. Make the final, 9-6.
The ladies played their lone draw of the day Wednesday afternoon. Team McEvoy (2-2, Halifax) stole an 8-7 victory versus Team MyKeytn-Driscoll (0-4, Mayflower). Team Brothers (3-1, Mayflower) didn’t score until the fourth but they picked up the only deuce of the game in the end as they went on to defeat Team Breen (1-3, Halifax), 5-3.
Team MacDiarmid (2-2, Lakeshore) stole one in the ninth and two more in the tenth to earn a 8-6 victory versus Team Jones (2-2, Mayflower). Finally, in the battle of the Dartmouth teams, Team Arsenault (3-1, Dartmouth) scored three in the eighth en route to a 8-7 victory versus Team Hilliard (2-2, Dartmouth).
The men were back on the ice to wrap Wednesday’s action at the Dartmouth Curling Club. Team MacDougall (1-3) stole two in the extra end to pick up their first victory of the week and defeat Team Fitzner-Leblanc (1-3) by a score of 9-7. Team Ouellette (1-3) also picked up his first victory of the week following a narrow 5-4 victory versus Team MacKenzie (0-4).
In a battle of two undefeated teams, Team Stevens (4-0) got out to an early 3-0 lead and never looked back as they defeated Team Stuart Thompson (3-1) by a score of 8-5. Team Kendal Thompson (2-2) gave Team Murphy (4-0) everything they could handle but Murphy held on for an 8-7 victory.
