Murphy and Stevens continue to lead the way in the 2019 Deloitte Tankard while there is a three way tie at the top of the 2019 Nova Scotia Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Thursday’s action was definitely exciting. Let’s recap Day 4!
The ladies kicked things off Thursday morning with Draw 5 of the Scotties. Team Brothers (Mayflower) reeled off a third straight win defeating Team Jones (Mayflower) by a score of 5-2. In what some might consider an upset, Team Myketyn-Driscoll (Mayflower) picked up their first win of the week by beating Team Arsenault (Dartmouth) by a score of 9-7.
Team Hilliard (Dartmouth) stole seven points over four ends to get by Team McEvoy (Halifax). Make the final, 9-1. Team MacDiarmid (Lakeshore) continued a trend of being the highest scoring team in the field this week as they defeated Team Breen (Halifax) by a score of 9-5.
The men took the ice Thursday afternoon for Draw 5 of the Deloitte Tankard. Team Stuart Thompson (4-1, Dartmouth) stole 3 in the third and never looked back as they defeated Team MacKenzie (0-5, NSCA) by a score of 9-4. Team Murphy (5-0, Halifax) got out to an early versus Team Fitzner-Leblanc (1-4, Halifax) and cruised to a 10-3 victory.
Team MacDougall (2-3, Mayflower) handed Team Kendal Thompson (2-3, Halifax) their third straight loss, beating them by a score of 8-7. Finally, Team Stevens (5-0, NSCA) remained undefeated by shutting out Team Ouellette (1-4, Mayflower), 9-0.
The ladies ended Day 4 with close games and more than one result that Curling fans would consider an upset. Team Arsenault (4-2) squeaked out a 9-8 extra end victory versus Team MacDiarmid (4-2). After dropping their first two games, Team McEvoy (3-3) has won three of their last four games by beating Team Brothers (4-2), 6-5.
Team Myketyn-Driscoll (2-4) stole two in the fifth and one more in the six to pick up a 7-6 victory versus Team Breen (1-5). Team Jones (3-3) broke their game wide open by scoring four in the ninth. They defeated Team Hilliard (3-3), 9-4.
The round robin wraps up today with some incredibly intriguing matchups. Who will win in the battle of undefeated teams (Murphy vs. Stevens) at 9:00 AM? At 2:00 PM, can the top three ladies teams win their final round robin match and lock up a spot in the Championship Round?
