Murphy and Brothers advanced to Sunday’s final in the 2019 Deloitte Tankard and Nova Scotia Scotties, respectively. Meanwhile, Stevens and Stuart Thompson pick up Tankard semi-final spots and a four-way tie for second place exists in Scotties Standings. How did we get here? Friday began with Draw 6 of the Deloitte Tankard. In the battle of the undefeated teams, Team Murphy (Halifax) stole one in the seventh to take the lead and beat Team Stevens (NSCA) by a score of 9-8. Team MacKenzie (NSCA) remained winless as they fell to Team MacDougall (Mayflower), 6-2.
Team Fitzner-Leblanc (Halifax) stole six points over four ends to defeat Team Ouellette (Mayflower) by a score of 9-3. In the battle between the Thompson brothers, Stuart (Dartmouth) stole a 8-7 extra end victory versus Kendal (Halifax).
Six teams were fighting for three playoff spots as the ladies hit the ice in the afternoon for their final round robin draw. Team Breen (2-5, Halifax) stole 5 points to end their Scotties bid on a high note with a 10-3 victory over Team McEvoy (3-4, Halifax). Team Hilliard (4-3, Dartmouth) picked up a 7-5 win versus Team MacDiarmid (4-3, Lakeshore) to force a tiebreaker.
Team Jones (4-3, Mayflower) stole one in an extra end versus
Team Arsenault (4-3, Dartmouth) to keep their playoff hopes alive. Make the final, 6-5 Team Brothers (5-2, Mayflower) clinched a spot in Sunday’s final with a 7-6 win versus Team Myketyn-Driscoll (2-5, Mayflower).
The men wrapped up Draw 7 on Friday evening. Team Ouellette (2-5) scored three in the fifth en route to an 8-4 victory versus Team MacDougall (3-4). Team Kendal Thompson (3-4) stole three in the ninth to beat Team Stevens (5-2), 10-7.
Team Murphy (7-0) finished the round robin undefeated and with a spot in the Championship Final following an 8-4 victory versus Team Stuart Thompson (5-2). Finally, Team MacKenzie (1-6) ended their week with a 9-1 win against Team Fitzner-Leblanc (2-5).
Later today at 9:00 AM, Team Jones will face Team MacDiarmid while Team Arsenault will face Team Hilliard in the two Scotties tiebreakers. The winners will face off in the semi-final match at 2:00 PM. At 7:00 PM, Team Stevens will face Team Stuart Thompson in the Deloitte Tankard semi-final.
